Fitzroyalty: A Short History of Brunswick Street.

ABC Radio National, The History Listen, 8th November 2022

In the 1980s and ‘90s, an influx of artists and creative types changed the face of Melbourne’s Brunswick Street, in inner-city Fitzroy. What was once a humble industrial shopping strip transformed into a bustling hive of creativity, full of cafes, bars, art and music.

Producer Phoebe Hartley came of age in this Fitzroy wonderland. Decades years later, she takes a trip down memory lane to chat to some of the people who were part of boho Brunswick Street, before the creeping tide of gentrification washed over.
